Flea Market Finds

For some people a flea market is just a collection of random items being sold in a large warehouse space. Those people are more comfortable getting their new clothes or aquarium gravel from the mall or along the stores on downtown streets. But for others a flea market is a huge treasure chest full of possibilities for you closet and home. One day you might find a new dress like you've never seen in the designer shops and another you might discover an old custom license plate frame that would make the perfect outline for a mirror in your bedroom. Here is a little more about the flea markets in the Lexington area and how to find the perfect pieces for you.

There are not many big flea markets right in Lexington, but there are lots just outside of the city. Georgetown Flea Market has everything from antique collectibles to fishing equipment. If you're looking for a deal on unique items like heat shrink tubing than you many be able to find it from more than one hundred vendors at this location. The town of Winchester is home to the Winchester Flea Market and a Peddler's Mall. There are more than three hundred booths at the peddler's mall and this is a great location to find arts and crafts to organic cloth diapers.

When you're moving into a new home can be the best time to do some flea market shopping. You will find loads of unique items to decorate every room in a variety of different styles. Some think that flea market finds are only for those with more eccentric taste, but the truth is there are usually great deals on more classic pieces as well. If you're interested in getting the best deals you will want to arrive early and go often. Flea markets are not like garage sales where the seller's might be more willing to negotiate at the end of the day before the sale is done. You just might miss out on some of the better deals.

While you usually don't need to trade cash for scrap gold to be able to afford the pieces at a flea market, you don't want to waste your money either. There is usually no return policy on things you buy there. That means if you're shopping for your home you will want to come equipped with measurements of the space and a measuring tape. Falling in love with something that just doesn't fit in your room can be very disheartening to any room designer.

While shopping at a flea market might mean that your room is going to have a little less of a uniform feel, it does not mean that it can't have a decor theme. You might want to bring in fabric swatches or a picture to help you pick out items that will fit well within your existing pieces.
